Counting By 7s

Book Summary:
Willow is a quirky genius, with a better-than-average 12-year-old knowledge of medical conditions. Counting by 7s is a way of calming herself - and after her adoptive parents are killed in a car crash, she can use all the calming strategies and support she can get. Book Review: Willow is a quirky character who may not appeal to everyone, and this book is all about characterization. However, the fact that Willow is different holds its own appeal for readers - even if they don't specifically connect to the ways she is different from most people. This book's focus on a character surviving without parents is a fairly common premise, but it maintains its distinctiveness. It's a favorite with many students. The idea that small actions can ultimately lead to big differences is powerful, as is the idea that so many things happen that can affect us so deeply and we have no power to control all those things. For these reasons, it may be a great match for sensitive readers who can relate to these concerns and issues, but it may also be better suited for older readers, or read with a supportive discussion group.
